Designated as a “Bariatric Surgeon of Excellence” by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), Dr. Nahmias has participated in and performed over 900 bariatric procedures while in training and as an attending physician; maintaining some of the lowest complication rates and highest patient satisfaction rates in the country.
Dr. Nahmias received his medical degree magna cum laude from the Anahuac University School of Medicine, Mexico City. He served as an intern and resident in general surgery at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, and a fellow in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia, Richmond. In 2009, Dr. Nahmias joined the team at Central CT Surgeons as their Bariatric Surgeon. From there, he went on to become the Director of Bariatric Surgery at New England Integrative Health Associates Bariatric Surgery Center (NEIHA). Most recently, Dr. Nahmias had worked with Saint Francis Hospital as their Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgeon & Advanced Bariatric Endoscopist.
A diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Nahmias is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and ASMBS. He is also a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the Connecticut Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders. He is the author or co-author of five papers published in professional journals and two chapters in a medical textbook.
Dr. Nahmias’ clinical interests include bariatric surgery, single incision laparoscopic surgery including gastric banding, hernia repair, solid organ surgery, Nissen fundoplication, biliary disease and gastric pacing for gastroparesis.
