Board-certified in general surgery and fellowship-trained in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, James Bonheur, MD, brings the highest standards of medical excellence to AMI Surgery in Stamford, Connecticut. Dr. Bonheur earned his medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine in 1998. His extensive training includes research and clinical positions affiliated with some of the world’s greatest medical institutions, including Harvard University, Boston University, Columbia University, and New York Medical College.

During a sabbatical from his clinical training, Dr. Bonheur completed a vascular research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital along with a surgical research fellowship at the Boston Medical Center. His work focused on vein disease and culminated in the publication of his work in several prestigious medical journals and numerous presentations at national conferences, including the National Institute of Health and the American College of Surgeons Clinical Conference.

Upon completing his research fellowships, he returned to Connecticut, where he continued his general surgery training at the Stamford Hospital, serving as a chief resident in general surgery. During this time, Dr. Bonheur became interested in emerging technologies in surgery and decided to pursue advanced training in minimally invasive surgery. He completed a fellowship in laparo-endoscopic and bariatric surgery at the Danbury Hospital in 2007.
