WHAT IS XEOMIN®?
Xeomin, or incobotulinumtoxinA, is used on adults to improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. This prescription medication is temporary and contains a protein that is purified from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, also known as botulinum toxin type A.
HOW DOES XEOMIN® WORK?
Any time that a person squints or frowns, the skin between their brows furrows and folds, which overtime causes persistent frown lines. These lines are caused when the skin loses some of its elasticity, which naturally occurs over time. The active ingredient in XEOMIN®, Botulinum toxin type A, goes to work on the nerve endings in your muscles to prevent the contraction of the muscle fibers. XEOMIN® temporarily reduces these lines on your forehead once these contractions are reduced.
IS XEOMIN® PROVEN?
In two separate clinical trials where 547 adult patients underwent randomized, double-blind, multicenter, placebo-controlled testing, XEOMIN® was proven to be effective. Out of these adults, the average age of the patients was 46 years. After receiving 20 units of XEOMIN®, patients were considered responders if the results were labeled as a 2-grade improvement. The improvements were based off of a 4 point scale that involved the assessment of both the physician and the patient. Maintaining the same criteria, the success rate of the XEOMIN® patients was higher than those who received a placebo on Day 30. In both studies the success rates were 60% vs. 0% and 48% vs. 0%. The FDA approved XEOMIN® for aesthetic use in 2011 based on these two trials.
HOW DO I KNOW IF XEOMIN® IS RIGHT FOR ME?
Any adult who has moderate to severe glaellar lines (frown lines) can be classified as a candidate for XEOMIN®. During your consultation with Our Aesthetic Team, it is important to discuss the benefits and risks of XEOMIN®. This treatment does not require anesthesia, but a topical anesthetic or cold pack might be used to reduce any discomfort had.
